The early adopter phase of the Canvas project is crucial to the successful adoption of the VLE across the University.
Early adopters were selected from across all divisions (Social Sciences, Humanities, Medical Sciences, and Maths, Physics, and Life Sciences) together with departments such as the Oxford Learning Institute, the Department for Continuing Education and the Oxford Language Centre. Around 27 programmes of study are covered in total.
Role of Canvas early adopters
Early adopters will test the platform with their students, providing feedback on a regular basis to their designated learning technologist or at user group meetings. Most importantly, they will be innovators, finding interesting ways in which to use Canvas to support and enhance their teaching and learning. They will also act as 'champions', taking part in events and meetings to promote and advocate the use of Canvas.
Learning technologists supporting early adopters
Learning technologists play a key role in supporting the work of the early adopters.
Each early adopter has been assigned a learning technologist, who will support them initially in Learning Design workshops, and throughout the early adopter phase itself. Learning technologists will help to ensure that the educational benefits of Canvas are fully realized.
They will also support early adopters in preparing their courses for the 2019/2020 academic year.
The early adopter phase will undergo continuous review, including a formal evaluation process. Any lessons learned will influence the eventual roll-out of Canvas across the University.
