Help us to make Canvas work for you

Would you like to help us to configure Canvas for the University?

When any new system is introduced, it may need a bit of tweaking to fit with requirements. Canvas is no different. We have a number of areas that we’ll be needing help with in the coming months. Take a look at the list below.

What is it?

Design of Canvas roles and permissions to use in the roll-out.

Why are we doing it?

We're refining the roles set up for Early Adopter Phase, so that they're fit for purpose for a larger roll-out.

What is it?

Tool which will allow you to identify an existing group of users (e.g. 1st year English students), and enrol these users into your Canvas course. The group membership will be updated dynamically from SITS, the student records management system, and other systems, e.g. when a student suspends or withdraws.

Why are we doing it?

Replcement for the WebLearn Group Manager ('Add Participant Group' function).

What is it?

Tool which you can use to organise sign up for events and classes.

Why are we doing it?

Canvas Scheduler offers basic sign-up functionality, but it does not meet all the Oxford users' needs.

What is it?

Tool for importing calendars (csv, ical etc.) into Canvas, so that they can be displayed as a part of your Canvas Courses.

Why are we doing it?

Exporting Canvas calendars to your own tools is really easy, and can be done by everyone. Importing other calendars into Canvas itself can only be done by technical users, so we're creating a tool which can be used by everyone, too.

What do we need you to do?

  • Clarify and validate requirements, use cases and processes
  • Provide feedback on designs and prototypes
  • Take part in system testing (e.g. usability testing, user acceptance testing, etc.).

We are looking for expressions of interest from students, academics and administrators at the moment.

If you see any areas of particular interest, or want to know more, drop us a line: canvasoxford@it.ox.ac.uk
